No. Catholic Teacher Training @ Wigan & West Lancashire is not specifically for Catholic teachers but for those who want to train and work within a Catholic setting. We are an inclusive provider of teacher training.
Yes. If you are on a postgraduate or undergraduate route and classed as home or EU, you can access the standard student support package, including tuition fee and maintenance loans and a means-tested maintenance grant. You may also be eligible for a tax-free training bursary.
Substantial tax-free bursaries of up to £31,000 are available for people with top degrees in certain subjects. The amount depends on the subject you want to teach and your degree classification. Scholarships are also available in a number of subjects.
They are paid in instalments during a trainee's training year. Trainees can choose to spend the bursary as they wish.
Anyone starting postgraduate teacher training needs at least a second class honours degree or equivalent to receive a training bursary. All UK students can still access the student support package of tuition fee and maintenance loans.
If you don't have the necessary GCSEs in Maths or English, you may be able to take an equivalency exam. Contact your chosen ITT provider to find out their requirements.
At least 50% of your degree should relate to the subject you want to teach. If it doesn't, contact your local ITT provider for advice, as relevant experience may be taken into account.
We welcome enquiries from committed graduates of any faith who wish to shape the future of Catholic education.
